Getting a Mental Health Diagnosis can often bring clarity. What happens when it forces you to reframe long-held beliefs, or contradicts an earlier diagnosis? We’ll explore the impact this can have on Ep. 38 of Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health.
We will be live Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. PT. If you can’t watch the live show, feel free to watch the recording on this page or on the links below.
Kate Easton, who appeared on one of our first episodes to talk about her son’s Bipolar Disorder, is joining us for a return engagement. She had been diagnosed with ADHD several years ago. Two years ago, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, and PTSD were added to the mix. Some of the medication that had been helping with her ADHD was actually making her other conditions worse.
In April, I shared my own diagnosis of ADHD (at 51). I had previously been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I also suffered from occasional depression. The ADHD diagnosis reframed everything for me.
This discussion will be particularly timely since October is ADHD Awareness Month.
Dawn Helmrich Neuburg, my co-host, knows me and Kate very well. She and Kate are best friends and Dawn has seen Kate’s journey up close. Her observations and insights on how both of us have managed these developments will be very interesting.

Programming Notes
Ep. 37 featured Talal Hattar. The three of us focused on the many ways we experience grief and mourning.
Background
Dawn and I launched this twice a month show (the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month) in order to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health. Thank you for being part of our community.
We are proud to be in Year 2 of the show. If you are interested in being a guest on the show or know someone who might be interested, please let us know. We’re looking for people who would be willing to share their story, advocates and people who work in the field of mental health.
We hope you can watch the show and share your own thoughts in the comments.
