Ep. 12 Rev. Tyler Coles | Shining Light on Shadows: Getting Help (Therapy) Takes a Lot of Work and Some Courage

Updated: Aug 6

Ep.12 of “Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health” will focus on the challenges of getting help when we need it, specifically mental health therapy. Our guest will be Rev. Byron Tyler Coles, a self-described “Black, Queer Person from Appalachia.” He also happens to be a Unitarian Universalist Minister and served as an Intern Minister at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church in Alexandria, Virginia a few years ago.

I’m a big fan of Tyler’s and am thrilled he will be joining us. He gave a guest lecture at our Church in February shortly after we launched the show. I mentioned the show to him and he was extremely encouraging, sharing with me that he had been diagnosed with “anxiety-induced depression.” He didn’t hesitate when I invited him to be on the show.

Unfortunately, Dawn will not be able to join us Thursday evening since she has a work conflict.

We’ll be live Thursday, August 1 at 7pm ET / 6pm CT / 4pm PT. If you can’t watch the show live, you can watch the recording at your convenience on this website or the links below.

You can watch the live show or recording here

or watch and comment on social media:

*We won't know the exact urls for Twitter or Instagram until we go live. For now, these links go to Neil's Twitter and Instagram home pages.

Dawn and I launched this twice a month show (the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month) in order to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be joined by friends and colleagues who are working through or have worked through their own challenges, practitioners who can speak to some of the issues faced by their clients and advocates who can talk about a range of different issues.

The show is produced by Digimentors on a pro bono basis.
