Maui Highlights

December 2022

We have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. The summer highlights were definitely Emily being on the neighborhood Swim Team and our vacation in Chincoteague, Virginia. Above all else, however, we’ll remember 2022 for our family trip to Hawai’i (specifically, Maui) in November. We won the timeshares through a raffle at the Unitarian Church we attend.

For the first week, Emily stayed with her Aunty Amy in Seattle, giving us a chance to properly celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Then, Emily flew from Seattle to Maui by herself and joined us for the tail end of the trip.

Emily Snorkeling

One of the many highlights was our snorkeling trip. Emily loved it and was an excellent swimmer. She took tons of pictures with her new waterproof camera. Neil got a few good ones too.

Emily really got into photography on this trip and bonded with Neil over their shared interest.

Emily at the Lu’au

We celebrated Thanksgiving by going to a Lu'au. The flower in Emily’s hair was made of clay by a local vendor.

Ho'okipa Beach Park on The Road to Hana

This was our first stop on the Road to Hana. Just a gorgeous overlook. The combination of colors is striking.

Ka’anapali Cliff Diving Ceremony

Legend tells us that the last Chief of Maui proved his spiritual strength by leaping off of the sacred Pu'u Keka'a, Black Rock, into the waters below. The ceremony is held nightly. Neil and Emily got some great pictures.

Waking up to a Double Rainbow

Emily flew into Maui the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and woke up to a double rainbow outside our window.

Emily took this picture of the waters off West Maui during our snorkeling trip. It’s her best “Postcard Pic.”

This was the beach right outside our hotel.

Sunset at Drums of the Pacific Lu’au

This was sunset, framed by palm trees, just before the Lu’au. Emily and Neil had a lot of fun taking photographs and video that evening.

This is Emily’s favorite picture. She took it while snorkeling. The snorkeling trip is also where she discovered POG Juice (Passion, Orange and Guava.). Another highlight of the trip was listening to whales sing to each other, less than a mile away from our boat.
